N26 is one of the most popular digital banks in Europe. Venaya is a personal finance app. People sometimes ask which one to use — but this is the wrong question. They do fundamentally different jobs, and most people who use Venaya also have a bank account, often N26.
What N26 is
N26 is a licensed bank. It holds your money, processes payments, issues a Mastercard debit card, and handles transfers across Europe. It does this very well, with a clean app and low or no fees for basic accounts. N26 Standard is free. N26 Smart, You, and Metal add travel insurance, budgeting features, and other perks at a monthly cost.
N26 is available in most European countries including Germany, France, Austria, Spain, and Italy. It is not available in Switzerland — N26 withdrew from the Swiss market in 2019.
What N26's budgeting features actually do
N26 has built-in spaces (savings pockets), automatic transaction categorisation, and basic spending statistics. These are useful for getting a quick sense of where money is going. But they are built around N26 transactions only — money held elsewhere, cash spending, or multi-currency expenses do not appear.
N26 does not produce a financial health score. It does not tell you whether your emergency fund is sufficient, whether your saving rhythm is sustainable, or whether your overall financial position is improving or deteriorating. It shows you what happened in your N26 account.
What Venaya adds on top
Venaya is not a bank. It does not hold money, process payments, or issue cards. What it does is give you a complete picture of your financial health — across all your accounts, currencies, and life contexts — through a 0–100 score and a breakdown of exactly what to improve.
If you use N26 as your primary bank, you can track your N26 spending manually in Venaya in seconds. You can also track cash, foreign currency accounts, savings held elsewhere, and goals that span multiple accounts. Venaya sees the whole picture; N26 sees only itself.
Who uses both
A typical pattern: N26 for day-to-day banking (salary, bills, card payments), Venaya for financial health tracking (monthly score, budget overview, savings goals, AI coaching). The bank handles the money movement. The app handles the understanding.
N26 is where you keep your money. Venaya is how you understand whether it is working.
The Switzerland note
Since N26 does not operate in Switzerland, Swiss residents typically use Neon, Yuh, or traditional cantonal banks. Venaya works with all of them — it is bank-agnostic by design, and works in CHF, EUR, or any combination of currencies your life requires.
